SHIFT serves as a catalyst to discover, match and fund technology entrepreneurs who are not only dedicated to solving global systemic problems, but can do it in a profitable and scalable way. If this sounds like you, please proceed.
Tell us about your Impact Technology idea. How do you plan to use technology to solve a problem in one of the following areas: Energy & carbon, food systems, inclusive finance, resilient cities, improved health & circular economy. More about Impact Tech.
Once applications close in your city, a review panel will apply a quantitative and qualitative framework to score each application against 5 key criteria.
It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete the online form. All applications will be reviewed. Once your application is received you will receive an email from your local SHIFT manager with the next steps.
The Shift Global Challenge (SHIFT!) is convened and administered by Blue Impacts PTE LTD (The organiser) with the support of local city hub organising partners.

The selection process for SHIFT! is an essential component of the SHIFT! City Challenge. The selection process is conducted by a review committee and enables the discovery of start-ups that have met the impact technology eligibility criteria in one of our six impact technology category areas:
The filtering process is anchored by a set of simple scoring metrics.
Up to three applicants in each category will then progress to the City Challenge to pitch their idea to a judging panel comprising of three investors, an impact expert and audience.
Two (2) city winners will be chosen by the judging panel to compete in the SHIFT global challenge semi-finals held in conjunction with the Impact X Global Summit.
Prizes are non-transferable. No substitution or cash equivalent of prizes is permitted.
Any attempt to influence or damage the content or operation of SHIFT is unlawful and subject to disqualification. The organiser reserves the right to terminate, suspend or amend the Challenge, without notice, and for any reason, including, without limitation, if the organiser determines that SHIFT cannot be conducted as planned or should a virus, bug, tampering or unauthorized intervention, technical failure or other cause beyond the organisers control corrupt the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper administration of SHIFT. In the event any tampering or unauthorized intervention may have occurred, the organiser reserves the right to void suspect entries. The organiser and its city hub partners, affiliates, agents, and representatives, and any network or service providers, are not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, or for any human error, technical malfunction, lost or delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, line failure or malfunction of any network, computer equipment or software, the inability to access any website or online service or any other error, human or otherwise.
By entering shift, each entrant agrees to indemnify, release and hold harmless Blue Impacts and its affiliates and subsidiary companies, city hub partners, administrators, advertising and promotional agencies, and all their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents from any liability, damages, losses or injury resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from that entrant’s participation in shift and the acceptance, use or misuse of any prize that may be won. Blue Impacts and its parent, affiliate and subsidiary companies do not make any warranties, express or implied, as to the condition, fitness or merchantability of the prize. Blue Impacts and its city hub partners, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies, and all their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents disclaim any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from access to or the download of information or materials connected with the shift.
By participating in SHIFT, each applicant grants the organiser permission to use their name, likeness or comments for publicity purposes without payment or additional consideration, except where prohibited by law.

A. SHIFT! is a startup pitch competition open to early stage, pre-series A, impact technology companies who can enter by completing an online questionnaire and submitting a 2-3-minute video pitch. Technologies pitched must demonstrate a viable business model as well as an intention to create positive impact in one of the following areas - food, energy & carbon, inclusive finance, resilient cities, health or circular economy. We will be progressively adding new areas of Impact tech application in 2022.
A. Impact technologies are technologies designed to have a measurable and positive impact for people, society and the planet. Here is a useful resource to help further your understanding of Impact Technology.
A. SHIFT! city applications are taken twice a year. Applications are now open for Jakarta, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Hangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai. Check the key dates on the respective city hub pages.
A. Click the ‘Enter Shift’ link on the SHIFT! page of the IX website here. Please note it will take around 18 minutes to complete the online application. We suggest you first review the questions and gather supporting materials before beginning the application.
A. No, it’s free to apply.
A. Our judges will select on average 18 startups to compete in each city challenge.
A. Yes, 100% of them. All applications go through the same unbiased process.
A. Yes, your application will be kept confidential and shared with the internal SHIFT! City Challenge review committee only.
A. A panel of expert investors will short list up to 18 startups based upon what you tell us in the online application. Through a collaborative process, our evaluation panel of investors & impact experts shortlist the SHIFT! City Challenge finalists. Consequently, submissions will be vetted through a review committee to filter the best startups – in terms of the eligibility criteria, novelty or originality of business idea, and its potential for impact.
A. No, not explicitly, however, there should definitely be an underlying technology innovation associated with your idea where the intention is to have impact as described above.
A. Typically three investors, one impact expert and an audience.
A. SHIFT! City Challenge finalists will be contacted directly by a member of the Impact X SHIFT! team. This typically occurs around one month after receiving the application. They will set up a call to brief you further on the process and preparation required.
A. Yes for sure. We will provide you with a template to ensure consistency throughout the pitching process.
A. You will have 5 minutes to pitch and 5 minutes for Q&A.
A. Yes, please bring them along. We just ask that one person (the Founder/ Co Founder) is on onstage for the pitch.
A. No, but we will conduct a 15 minute onboarding call and are always available to offer support. This does not mean you should not rehearse. You should practise, practise, and practise until you feel your delivery is perfect. If you are selected to progress to the SHIFT! Global Challenge, two rehearsals will be arranged by the SHIFT team.
A. Yes! Their bios will be on the SHIFT! website.
A. No. But your company must be registered in the country and or you are applying from.
A. The judging panel will select two startups from the shortlisted SHIFT! City Challenge finalists.
A. No. But the City Challenge winners will receive airfares and accommodation to the SHIFT! Global Challenge in China. And of course the opportunity to win the grand prize of USD $50,000.
A. Congrats. A member of the Impact X SHIFT! team will reach out to set up a call to walk you through the process for preparing for the big event. And they will stay with you throughout the entire journey.
A. The format of the Global Challenge will be the same as the SHIFT! City Challenge, 5 minutes to present plus 5 minutes of Q&A.
